Aboat Gun Mattsson
Same year I
began to show my pictures to art – and culture societies, to companies and to
public institutions
For me, the contents and
expression of the picture is as important as colour and form. My pictures become
inspired partly of what is going on in the surrounding world, partly of thoughts
and ideas arisen in my own experience – often all together. Mostly I work for a
long time with my pictures, striving for a calm, meditating temper – sometimes
like the eye of the hurricane, the calm beyond chaos.
For me,
the world of fairy tales and legends have always been an important source of
inspiration. Figures from folklore, noble as evil, will arise at times in my
paintings, drawings and prints.
Objects from different
parts of the world, different culture and history arouse fascination and
curiosity within many of us. When I’m painting I notice that I’m wondering a lot
about human relations, about societies, historical and contemporary, around the
world.
The
animals who occur in the pictures are there sometimes on account of their beauty
or power but also to give a more evident expression to people’s feelings,
thoughts and characters, and that’s why they at times are being drawn as
hybrids.
Using the
theatre scenes, wings and play, sometimes might intensify the expression of the
content and hopefully at the same time give opportunities to many different
interpretations and fantasy journeys for those who observe.
Sometimes there are scenes from
different areas and periods to be found in the same picture. In the mimicry and
body posture of my figures there are keys to their way to relate to themselves,
each others and the time. My hope is that you as a observer sometimes can
recognize something also from your own world, if only a feeling or a thought
from long ago.
I work
fulltime with pictures – mostly with watercolours, but also with oil, acryl and
copper prints.
